Attendance and Compass

Absences, Late Arrivals and Appointments

Punctuality in attending class is crucial for minimising disruptions and ensuring a smooth, effective learning experience for all students. When students arrive on time, it helps maintain the flow of instruction and allows everyone to engage with the material from the beginning. Being on time demonstrates respect for both the teacher and fellow classmates, fostering a more focused and productive educational environment. Moreover, consistent punctuality helps students stay on track with the curriculum, ensuring they don’t miss important information and can fully participate in discussions and activities.

Parents are to advise the school of all absences before 8.30am, otherwise will receive an SMS indicating their child is not at school. Parents can log onto Compass and add an attendance note, explaining why their child will not be attending that day or will be late.

Students who arrive late or return to school after an appointment are required to sign in at the front office on the attendance kiosk and take a card to their class teacher. If this does not occur there will be an unexplained absence noted on the child’s file.

If there is a need for your child to be collected early/during the school day, an authorised adult must complete an early sign out for the child via the front reception attendance kiosk and collect a leave pass to give to the classroom teacher. This authorises the teacher to release your child to your care.

Parents and visitors who are attending on the school grounds outside of the normal start of day drop-off time (after 8.45am) and end of day pick-up time (before 2.45pm) are required to sign in and get a visitors pass from the front office. This allows us to manage onsite attendance in case of emergencies and ensures the safety of our students.

Holidays during the school term are discouraged. Please advise in writing via email to freshwaterbay.ps@education.wa.edu.au if your child will be absent for a known period of time.
